The KangaMaple | Tattoo Design

Well, this is not a commercial project, but an interesting one. I designed a tattoo for my friend using AI (Artificial Intelligence).

My friend Lakshay asked me to design an arm tattoo that would show his love for Australia and Canada. He is currently living and working in Canada and studied in Australia.

I browsed web for inspiration and made an idea mood-board for Lakshay to know his taste in styles of tattoo. I thought a minimal and bold tattoo will suit his arm.

Out of the AI trend FOMO and my curiosity, I tried my hands on an AI tool DALLE-2 by Open AI for inspiration and ideas. I did a little prompt-engineering and the output was super-cool.

AI helped me getting closer to the output I had in my mind, but I had to use Ai (Adobe Illustrator) in order to reach the final output. So, it was AI + Ai and I finally came up with an original concept.

I have to agree, the design lacks details as per any conventional tattoo design, It looks like more of a logo design, thanks to my branding expertise. But I did try the KangaMaple (tattoo design) on a few mockups and it did suit well. So, I gave it a go.

He Loved it!

Another secret, I used AI for the project name too. It's another revolutionary tool called chatGPT-3 by Open AI and I liked the first output itself.

When I received the pictures of the arm tattoo done by the artist, I was amazed with the result. The design interventions by the artist were relevant. He added a fade in the maple and outlined the kangaroo which made it better.

I felt very happy with having done something that's going to stay with someone for life, or till he change his mind, lol.

Concluding this, AI is another revolution to make stuff easier. Here, I used it as a tool in my design process and I am impressed by the results. But, It's my experience and skills that ultimately determine the success of the design, not just the use of AI as a tool.

I think someone rightly said, "AI will not replace you, but a person using AI will".
